‘The Fables of Aesop, 1818’
1st October marks the 200th aniversary of the publication of Thomas Bewick’s late masterpiece. Critics and collectors have long
been divided over the significance of Bewick’s late fables. Peter will reappraise the detailed illustrations in Bewick’s book, its innovative tail-pieces and a large number of its tales.

Mike gave the first part of this talk last October and will be completing the Tyne’s course to the sea this year, showing us his collection of rare pictures of places familiar to us and the stories that accompany them.
